Records include contracts, annual reports, subject files, correspondence, symposium and book manuscripts and records, and plant inventories in computer printout form, ca.1975-1979. These document New York Botanical Garden's work on a 1975 National Park Service grant to study the feasibility of reactivating the Flora North America Project, an inventory of the plant species of North America which began at the Smithsonian Institution in 1969, and was terminated in 1973. The Cooperative Park Study Unit evaluated and revised the strategies and plant species inventories of the Flora North America Project, conducted research and a symposium on data organization for plant conservation, and related this work to the special needs of the National Park Service. Project staff included Principal Investigator Howard S. Irwin, Ghillean T. Prance, Theodore J. Crovello, Larry Morse, Jane Lawyer, and Rita M. Maroncelli.
